A Joyous Homecoming: Christopher Blenman Older Adult Club Reopens After Major Renovation

Yesterday marked a truly meaningful and celebratory moment for the Fort Greene Council family as we officially welcomed members back into the Christopher Blenman Older Adult Club for the first event held in the center since its extensive renovation. After more than a year of construction and transformation, the reopening felt less like an event and more like a heartfelt homecoming.

Throughout the renovation process, our members showed extraordinary patience, resilience, and loyalty. Even while the center was temporarily displaced, they continued to show up, stay engaged, and support one another—demonstrating the true spirit of community that defines Christopher Blenman OAC. Their commitment never wavered, and yesterday’s celebration was a beautiful reflection of that dedication.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the exceptional leadership at the center, Ms. Merlyn Bruce and Ms. Paulette Henry, who guided the club through this period of transition with grace, determination, and unwavering care for our members. Their steady leadership ensured that programs continued, relationships remained strong, and the heart of the club never skipped a beat—even while waiting for the “dust to settle.”

The day was made even more special by the generosity of the Delta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, who joined us to celebrate this milestone. Led by one of our esteemed Board Members, Sr. Stovall, the sorors arrived with an abundance of holiday gifts, bringing smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of joy to everyone in attendance. Their thoughtfulness embodied the true meaning of the season and reminded us of the power of partnership and service.

As gifts were distributed and the room filled with gratitude and holiday cheer, it became clear that this reopening represented far more than a newly renovated space. It symbolized resilience, unity, and the enduring bonds between our members, staff, and community partners. The Christopher Blenman Older Adult Club is once again a vibrant hub where older adults can gather, connect, and thrive in a space designed to support their well-being and enrichment.

We are incredibly thankful to everyone who played a role in making this day possible—our members, staff, leadership, volunteers, and community partners. Moments like these reaffirm our mission and strengthen our commitment to serving older adults with dignity, respect, and care.

We invite you to enjoy the video highlights from this special day and hope you feel the same spirit and joy that filled the room. From all of us at Christopher Blenman Older Adult Club, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season filled with peace, warmth, and community.
