Let's Dance, Brooklyn! FGC Celebrates the First Older Adult BALLROOM BASIX BASH in Council District 35!

Fun, Fitness & Fancy Footwork are taking center stage as older adults from two Fort Greene Council locations come together for an afternoon of dance, friendship, and community!

Fort Greene Council, Inc. (FGC) is excited to partner with BALLROOM BASIX USA for the very first Older Adult BBX BASH in New York City Council District 35, taking place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at our headquarters, located at 966 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.

This special celebration will bring together members of FGC's Grace Agard-Harewood and Willoughby Older Adult Clubs to showcase the dance moves, confidence, and connections they've developed through BALLROOM BASIX programming.

More Than Just Dancing!

At the heart of BALLROOM BASIX USA is a mission that extends far beyond the dance floor. Through partner dancing, the program promotes physical activity, social engagement, mutual respect, and positive connections among participants.

Unlike traditional dance competitions, the BBX BASH emphasizes camaraderie over competition, embracing the organization's signature motto:

"We don't BEAT the other site, we MEET the other site!"

This philosophy reflects FGC's commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive environments where older adults can stay active, build meaningful relationships, and celebrate their accomplishments together.

The event will also highlight BALLROOM BASIX's message of "Making Manners Matter Every Move We Make," demonstrating how dance can encourage courtesy, cooperation, and community spirit.

Celebrating Active Aging in Brooklyn

At Fort Greene Council, we believe that staying physically and socially active is an important part of healthy aging.

Programs like BALLROOM BASIX provide opportunities for older adults to improve balance, coordination, and mobility while enjoying music, movement, and companionship.

Most importantly, they remind us that having fun, learning new skills, and making new friends have no age limit!
