Honoring National Family

Caregivers Month

Celebrating the Compassion, Dedication, and Strength of Caregivers Everywhere

Each November, we pause to recognize and honor the extraordinary individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to caring for others. National Family Caregivers Month is a time to celebrate the millions of family members, friends, and neighbors who provide essential care to older adults and people with disabilities—often “around the clock.”

Caregiving is one of the purest acts of love. It requires organization, patience, strength, and endless compassion. For many caregivers, it means sleepless nights, balancing full schedules, and managing countless responsibilities—all while ensuring their loved ones feel safe, supported, and cared for.

Across the United States, there are more than 53 million family caregivers, providing an estimated $470 billion worth of unpaid care each year. Behind these numbers are real people—sons, daughters, spouses, friends, and neighbors—whose tireless dedication keeps families and communities strong.

Originally established in 1994, National Family Caregivers Month is a nationwide observance led by the Caregiver Action Network, National Alliance for Caregiving, and Share the Care. Each year, organizations across the country join in to raise awareness about the challenges caregivers face and to advocate for greater resources and recognition.

This year’s theme, “Caregiving Around the Clock,” reminds us that caregiving never stops. It happens quietly and consistently, often behind the scenes, yet it forms the foundation of support for so many in our communities.

At Fort Greene Council, we extend our deepest gratitude to all the caregivers within our network and beyond. Your compassion, resilience, and selflessness embody the very best of humanity. Whether you are providing daily care, emotional support, or simply showing up when it matters most—you are making a profound difference.

Ways to Honor Caregivers This Month

  • Say thank you – A simple word of appreciation can go a long way.

  • Offer help – Whether it’s running an errand, preparing a meal, or providing a few hours of respite, every bit of support matters.

  • Share their stories – Shine a light on the caregivers in your life to remind them they’re seen, valued, and celebrated.

  • Spread awareness – Use hashtags like

#CaregivingAroundTheClock and #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth to amplify their voices and encourage others to support caregiving initiatives.

This month and every month, Fort Greene Council honors all who care, give, and love unconditionally. Your dedication keeps families connected, strengthens our communities, and reminds us all of the power of compassion in action.
