🗳️ Empowering Voices: Art, Conversation, and Civic Engagement at Grace Agard-Harewood Older Adult Club 🎨

At Fort Greene Council, Inc., we believe that community engagement is one of the most powerful ways to create meaningful change — and this week at our Grace Agard-Harewood Older Adult Club, that power was on full display.

We were honored to welcome NYC mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani for a special Sip-N-Paint event with our older adults. The afternoon blended art, open dialogue, and connection, creating a vibrant space where participants could express themselves both creatively and civically.

As brushes met canvas, conversations flowed naturally about the issues that matter most — from access to resources and housing to community investment and safety for older New Yorkers. Mr. Mamdani took time to listen, share his perspective, and reflect on the unique role that older adults play in shaping the future of our city.

Adding even more depth to the afternoon were several of Brooklyn’s respected leaders: State Senator Jabari Brisport, Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest, and Councilmember Crystal Hudson, who joined to show their ongoing support for Fort Greene Council’s mission of empowerment and advocacy.

The day was not just about art or politics — it was about voices being heard, stories being shared, and community coming together.

🗣️ The Power of Your Voice

At Fort Greene Council, we remind our members and neighbors that your voice matters — and one of the most powerful ways to use it is through voting.

Every election, from local to national, shapes the world around us — our parks, transportation, senior services, housing, and healthcare. When we show up to the polls, we’re not just casting a ballot — we’re shaping our neighborhoods, our opportunities, and the resources available to us and future generations.

So as election season approaches, we encourage everyone to:

Stay informed about upcoming races and candidates.

🗳️ Check your voter registration status and know your polling location.

🕐 Make a plan to vote — early, by mail, or on Election Day.

📢 Encourage others in your community to do the same!

When we vote, we turn conversation into action and ensure that our collective voices — across all ages — help build the New York City we want to see.

🎨 Thank you to everyone who joined our Sip-N-Paint event for making it such an inspiring and empowering afternoon!

Be sure to check out the video highlights below, and remember: change starts when we show up — in our communities, in conversation, and at the ballot box.
