At Fort Greene Council, we believe that our older adults are the backbone of our communitiesāthe living legacy of strength, resilience, and wisdom. And yesterday, we had the honor of witnessing that belief in action.
Our older adult members were invited to Citigroup headquarters in ManhattanĀ for a truly unforgettable afternoon of appreciation. From the moment they arrived, they were celebrated and cherished:
welcomed with flowers, refreshments, and sincere expressions of gratitude.
The event served as a beautiful reminder of a powerful truth:
š¼ āGive them their flowers while they can still smell them.ā š¼
Too often, our elders are quietly overlooked despite their years of hard work, caregiving, and community building. But thanks to our friends at Citi, our members were not only seen and heardāthey were honored. And the smiles, laughter, and shared joy spoke volumes.
This kind of appreciation isnāt just a nice gesture. Itās a necessity. As a society, we owe so much to the generations who came before us. They paved roads we now walk on, opened doors we now pass through, and endured challenges we can only imagine. Showing our gratitude while theyāre still here to receive it is one of the most meaningful things we can do.
To the team at Citi: thank youĀ for reminding us all how powerful a simple act of kindness can be. And to our older adults: thank you for everything youāve givenāand continue to giveāthis world.Ā Your light shines brighter than ever.
We canāt wait for the next opportunity to share more joy, respect, and appreciation with you.
With gratitude,The Fort Greene Council Team
